Start with the symptom

The whole program repeats

Hunter explains that extra start times can repeat an entire program on its NODE controller. Check your model’s manual to see how its start times work. [1] See why a controller waters twice.

The display runs, but sprinklers do not

For its Pro-C, Hunter identifies water-supply and valve-wiring issues as possible causes. Check whether the water supply is on and the valves respond. [2]

Only one zone fails

We look at the affected station and its connections. Valve and solenoid troubleshooting may be needed alongside controller checks.

The schedule no longer fits

Review watering days and run times as the season changes. Utah’s Weekly Lawn Watering Guide provides weather-based guidance for different lawn types. [3]

What we check during controller service

  1. Your intended schedule. Tell us when you expect watering and which areas need it.
  2. The active settings. We review the clock, watering days, start times, station durations, and available sensor settings.
  3. The system response. We compare controller commands with what the valves and sprinklers do.
  4. The next step. We explain programming changes, repair options, or a compatible replacement before proceeding.

If a zone waters but coverage is poor, see sprinkler head repair. If water is escaping underground, use leak repair. Extra run time cannot repair damaged hardware.

Timer and controller questions

Do I need a new controller?

Not necessarily. A schedule error or field problem may be repairable without replacing the timer. Let us diagnose the symptom and discuss the options.

Why are there several start times?

Some controllers allow multiple watering cycles for the same program. Intentional cycle-and-soak watering differs from an accidental duplicate cycle. Hunter’s NODE example shows how one start time runs the assigned stations in sequence. [1]

Can you show me how to use it?

Yes. Ask us to review the normal program, manual watering, and seasonal adjustments with you. Having the controller model or manual available helps.

Will a smart timer fix a dry patch?

It cannot fix a blocked spray pattern, damaged sprinkler, or broken pipe. We review system condition first and can discuss compatible smart-controller options.

Should I keep bypassing the rain sensor?

A sensor setting can affect watering, but a permanent bypass should not be the default fix. Tell us what the display shows so we can investigate the sensor and programming together. [2]

How much will controller repair cost?

The model, symptoms, wiring diagnosis, and any replacement equipment affect the cost. Call for current charges; our repair-cost guide explains the main variables.

Make seasonal changes easier

Book a spring startup to review the watering program as the system returns to service. At the end of the season, arrange winterization and confirm the correct off-season controller setting.
